Officials Clinics
Help tennis development in Alberta by becoming a tennis umpire! Tennis Alberta has many opportunities for officiating at tennis events. Officials are financially compensated for their time and effort. Here's your chance to ensure that codes of fair play are followed and rules are enforced.

Clinics in Alberta are held by Bill Popadych and sometimes by Tennis Canada’s Tony Cho.

Clinician: Tony Cho
Tony has traveled around the world as chair umpire for the ATP tour and is the tournament referee for the Tennis Masters series and the Rogers AT&T Canada Cup. He is currently employed as Tennis Canada’s manager of officiating.

Course Information
Courses focus primarily on the skills needed for employment as roving official. The course consists of classroom sessions, video analysis and on-court training. The program also includes an introduction to chair umpiring.

Certification
Upon completion of the course, officials receive certification recognized nationally under the new Canadian certification program. New officials receive local level roving umpire certification.

Tennis Canada launched a national officiating program in 1999 to help standardize officiating across the country. The goal included developing a National Officials Association and supplying qualified officials for tournaments. Individuals can acquire certification in six different categories and each category has two to four levels of certification.
